Define...

Define... you...  Are you you or are you who anyone wants you to be?
That's a question I keep in mind a lot. Why? Because I want to stay true to myself and not feel captured in a box only because some people expect me to be there.
Of course sometimes you adapt to situations and then I'm the more serious Veerle... but the moment I can I'm just my old self among those I love ^.^
But where I keep this question in my head most of the times is in my craft mode. I see so many things in this crafting business and I often ask myself why people just go and jump on the bandwagon of new releases only because they are new and because they feel the need to do it because they want to belong to that group that has all the new stuff.  What is wrong with being authentic and choose your own materials just because you love them and think they can help you create what you want to create. The stuff what helps you to lay down your own story?
And yes, I'm guilty as I have been there too. That is until I discovered watercolors and found Visible Image. It took me some years to find my own style ^.^ And yet, when I ask people what they would like to see me do... they go the complete other direction. And then there is that question again...
So... define...  Have fun with the video ^.^

Omschrijf... jezelf. Ben jij jezelf of ben je eender wie iemand wil dat je bent?
Die vraag springt regelmatig in mijn hoofd. Waarom?  Omdat ik trouw aan mezelf wil blijven en niet in een kastje gezet wil worden omdat mensen me zo willen zien.
Natuurlijk pas je jezelf soms aan in sommige situaties en dan ben ik bijvoorbeeld de meer serieuze Veerle... maar zodra ik kan ben ik terug gewoon mijn oude ik onder bekenden ^.^
Waar die vraag eigenlijk het vaakste naar boven komt is op creatief vlak. Ik zie zo veel in de hobbywereld passeren en ik vraag me vaak af waarom mensen steeds mee springen op die denderende trein en bijvoorbeeld enkel de nieuwste spullen kopen omdat ze bij die groep willen horen die het allerlaatste hebben. Wat is er mis met authentiek zijn en je eigen materiaal kiezen enkel en alleen omdat je ze mooi vindt en vindt dat ze je kunnen helpen om je eigen ding te doen, je eigen verhaal neer te zetten?
En ja hoor, ik reed vroeger ook mee met die trein. Tot het moment dat ik aquarelverf ontdekte en Visible Image. Het heeft een paar jaar geduurd om mijn eigen ding te ontdekken ^.^ En elke keer weer als ik iemand vraag wat ze graag van me zouden willen zien gaan ze een totaal andere kant uit. En dan komt die vraag weer...

Make a wish...

So... December is getting closer and we are all aware that those Holiday cards need to get finished real soon. But... we also need to start looking for those presents we want to give and those need to get packed. So I was thinking... why not start making my own little boxes for those tinier presents?
So I had a little play, a little testrun so to speak, and tried out this first box.
Step one: scoring my background paper and choosing a stencil. And I went for the two tone stencil as I scored a rather square box. So I wanted to bring back that square motive

December komt stilletjes dichterbij en we zijn er ons allemaal echt wel van bewust dat die kerstkaarten nu toch klaar moeten beginnen geraken. Maar... we mogen ook al beginnen uitkijken naar de cadeau's die we onder de boom mogen gaan leggen en die moeten natuurlijk ook ingepakt worden. Dus vroeg ik mezelf af... waarom niet beginnen met mijn eigen doosjes maken om die kleinere cadeautjes in in te pakken?
Dus heb ik een alvast even een testritje gedaan en mijn eerste doosje proberen maken.  
De eerste stap: achtergrond papier snijden en rillen en dan een stencil kiezen. Ik ging voor het stencil Two tone omdat ik een vrij vierkant doosje heb gemaakt en ik het vierkante patroon wou houden.

Step two: gluing everything together and then make a litte wrapper to keep my box closed. And of course that wrapper is the perfect place to put the name of the recipient but... why not put a word, quote or... on there.  I found the perfect one for my first present as I'm pretty sure I will make someone very happy with what will be inside of my box ^.^

De tweede stap: alles plooien en vastlijmen en daarna een kleine banner maken om mijn doosje dicht te houden. Nu is die banner natuurlijk de ideale plaats om een naam op te zetten maar waarom eens geen woord of een quote of... En ik vond de perfecte stempel om er op te zetten aangezien ik vrij zeker ben dat ik een kleine wens kan laten uitkomen ^.^

But now... I guess I'm hooked, as I already have so many stamps too I want to put on my background paper ^.^  So I guess: to be continued  ^.^

Alleen... denk ik dat ik nu gebeten ben want ik heb zoveel zin om er nu meteen meer te maken. Ik heb al zoveel leuke stempels in mijn hoofd om op mijn achtergrond papier te zetten ook. 
Dus: wordt vervolgd denk ik ^.^

No regrets...

You all know I love words on my projects and today is not different. They even get their own place in the spotlight on today's project.  Visible Image has these beautiful sets with strong words perfect for cards, art journaling and I myself used them on a tag today. I had my own twist on them as I felt like they needed to be torn apart and then joined together again.  Strange? Not in my head :-)
Well I had the camera rolling for you so enjoy the video ^.^

Het is geen geheim dat ik graag woorden verwerk op mijn projecten en dat is vandaag niet anders.  Ze krijgen zelfs hun eigen plaatsje in de spotlights. Visible Image heeft prachtige sets met woorden die perfect zijn voor kaarten, artjournaling of op een tag zoals ik vandaag doe. Ik gaf er mijn eigen draai aan aangezien ik vond dat ze uit elkaar moesten gehaald worden en daarna toch terug samen moesten gebracht worden. Vreemd?  Niet in mijn hoofd ^.^
Ik had de camera terug opgezet dus veel plezier met een nieuwe tutorial op mijn videokanaal ^.^

Only 7 weeks till Christmas so we better keep making those Christmas cards.  So I have a new card for you in my Holiday cards series. And as last week's one was a very CAS one I went for some mixed media today ^.^ Enjoy the video!

Nog 7 weken voor het kerst is dus we blijven best maar even actief kerstkaarten maken. Vandaag dus een nieuw kaartje in mijn Holiday cards series en aangezien het vorige week een hele CAS kaart was vandaag maar even de mixed media toer opgegaan ^.^ Veel plezier!

I would love to take the time to also welcome all those lovely new followers on my channel but also thank every one who takes the time to like and comment underneath the videos. It is all so heart warming and very much appreciated.  Lot's of love fro me to you!

Ik wil van deze gelegenheid ook even een warm welkom geven aan al mijn nieuwe volgers op mijn kanaal en hier op mijn blog, maar ook een dikke dank je wel aan iedereen die de tijd neemt om een like en een berichtje na te laten. Het is altijd hartverwarmend om ze te ontdekken en worden heel erg geapprecieerd. Dikke knuffel van mij voor jou ^.^

Bad days... we all have them. We can all pretend to be tough but we all have that point where we break down and a big hug is so badly needed.  

But then there is life... not everyone can just drop anything he's doing to come running and give you that instant hug you need.  That's just a fact, we would love to be able to drop everything but that's sadly enough not realistic. And sometimes that person isn't living nearby either so that's making it even harder to be there in an instant. 

Well... a good alternative is a card.  Yes we can call and send text messages or skype or... but there is something about a handmade card that gives that extra warm touch.

So here it is, my take on a card for someone that can use a little support, a card to put that little precious note inside showing you are thinking of someone, showing you care.

Een slechte dag... iedereen heeft die wel eens. We kunnen ons allemaal wel  voordoen als harde noten om te kraken maar iedereen komt wel eens op dat breekpunt waar een knuffel zo hard nodig is.

En dan is er het dagelijkse leven... niet iedereen kan gewoon alles laten vallen om naar ons te rennen en ons die knuffel te geven die je zo hard nodig hebt. Dat is gewoon een vaststaand feit, we zouden allemaal wel  willen dat we alles konden laten vallen maar dat is nu jammer genoeg niet realistisch.  En is het zelfs zo dat je te ver uit elkaar woont om snel even naar elkaar toe te gaan. Ja we kunnen bellen, en een sms sturen of skypen of.. maar er is ook zoiets als een handgemaakt kaartje dat net dat kleine tikkeltje extra warmte meedraagt. 

Hier is mijn versie van zo een kaartje dat dat kleine steuntje in de rug kan zijn, een kaartje waar je die kleine persoonlijke boodschap in kan neerpennen en waarmee je kan laten zien dat je aan iemand denkt, dat je er bent voor hem of haar.

Make your story...

Sometimes you can't stop that feeling that is growing inside, and you just have to give in.  I really wanted to go and have some fun with crackle paste and... that one fine but oh so beautiful line from the 'Sparkle in the rain set'. So I just did it, I've cut it off and had a play with it...
And I'm taking you all along in my video, have fun!

Soms kan je het gewoon niet tegen houden en moet je er aan toegeven.  Ik wou echt heel graag opnieuw eens met crackle pasta aan de slag en met dat fijne maar oh zo mooie lijntje uit de 'Sparkle in the rain' set. Dus ik heb het gewoon gedaan: ik heb het lijntje eraf geknipt zodat ik er heel makkelijk mee kon werken. En ik had de camera terug aan, veel plezier!

Did you discover the Holiday card series I started on my youtube channel?  It started last week and I challenged myself to go and make one quick and CAS Christmas card every week so maybe this year I'll have all my cards ready in time to be send ^.^

One kind word...

What if...? Sometimes you try out something and just discover new things and today's project is all about that. I had the 1983 stencil on my work desk and while trying out something I saw another pattern appear that I loved... so I just went ahead and made a little tag with it.
And I found the perfect words for this tag in the new released set 'One kind word'...

Wat als...? Soms ga je aan het experimenteren en ontdek je nieuwe dingen die je niet had verwacht. Ik had het nieuwe 1983 stencil op mijn werkblad en toen ik iets aan het uitproberen was zag ik een vorm die zelf heel graag zie... dus ging ik ermee aan de slag op een tag.
En de perfecte woorden  voor mijn tag vond ik in de nieuwe set 'One kind word'

Save the crafty youtuber #2

It's back... the 'Save the crafty youtuber' hop.  A little bit different to the first one but still just as much fun and as inspirational as before ^.^
But maybe you have missed out on the first one and you have no idea what I'm talking about ^.^ To make a long story short: youtube changed some rules and the smaller channels are the ones affected the most. So Justine Hovey decided to team up with us and organize a youtube hop.  It became a very big one with... a lot of prizes to be won.
It still is a big video hop but we've split it up in different categories:
Monday: CAS / One layer cards
Tuesday: Quick videos & ideas
Wednesday: Mixed media
Thursday: Techniques
Friday: Advanced techniques / Longer videos

But we haven't changed anything on the chance for you to win a prize.  There is a prize to be won at each channel so the more you comment the bigger your chances to win ^.^

We gaan er terug voor: er is een nieuwe 'Save the crafty youtuber' video hop. Een klein beetje anders dan de eerste keer maar nog steeds even leuk en met evenveel inspiratie als toen ^.^
Maar misschien hebben jullie de eerste gemist en hebben jullie geen idee waar ik het eigenlijk over heb. Om een lang verhaal kort te maken: youtube heeft een paar veranderingen doorgevoerd en het zijn de kleine youtube kanalen die daar het hardst in getroffen worden. It's time...

When is it time to start a new chapter in your life? How long do you allow yourself or force yourself  to keep trying before starting a new one?  Not an easy question and it's one that will differ for each of us. The only right answer is: as long as necessary to be able to look back later and not feeling guilty for not having fought hard enough.
Closing...does that mean you have to forget about that chapter? Sometimes that is indeed what you need to do, to be able to move on and have a happy life. But don't forget that chapter is part of the story that brought you to the place you are right now and made you as strong as you are now. So maybe, sometimes it's just better to put it behind glass as a reminder of how strong you have become.

Wanneer is het tijd om een nieuw hoofdstuk te beginnen in je leven? Hoe lang laat je jezelf toe of verplicht je jezelf om te blijven proberen voor je een nieuw hoofdstuk begint? Geen makkelijke vraag en het is er eentje die voor iedereen anders zal zijn. Het enige antwoord is: zo lang als nodig zodat je later kan terugkijken en je jezelf niet schuldig hoeft te voelen dat je niet hard genoeg geprobeerd hebt.
Afsluiten...wil dit zeggen dat je het oude hoofdstuk gewoon moet gaan vergeten? Soms is dat inderdaad wat je moet doen zodat je verder kan gaan met je leven. Maar vergeet niet dat ook dat hoofdstuk je gebracht heeft op de plaats waar je nu bent. Dus misschien is het wel beter om het gewoon achter glas te zetten als een herinnering aan hoe je zo sterk bent geworden.

You're not alone...

Sometimes you see a set and you just fall in love. Well this 'You're not alone' set is one of them.  Sometimes it's so easy to explain and sometimes it's not, it's a feeling that a set gives you and that's exactly what's going on with this set.

Soms zie je een set en val je gewoon als een blok voor de set. Deze 'You're not alone' set is er eentje van.  Het is soms hard om uit te leggen, vaak is het gewoon een gevoel dat een set je geeft en dat is precies wat het is met deze set.

I love the hands and love the words, they will make perfect cards to give some support to anyone in need of it. But they have so many more possibilities. For today's project I chose to make a supportive tag... 
And yes, that's a little bit of gold on my butterfly ^.^

Ik vind de handen prachtig en de woorden... ze zijn perfect om kaarten te maken om iemand een hart onder de riem te steken die het nodig heeft. Maar er zijn zoveel meer mogelijkheden. Voor het project van vandaag koos ik om een tag te maken om iemand een hart onder de riem te steken.
En je ziet het goed, er zit wat goud op mijn vlinder ^.^

And yes,  I had some fun burning holes in my tag ^.^ 

En ik heb inderdaad gaten in mijn tag gebrand ^.^

Here's the tag in it's full glory.  But you could easily make it in a card's version, and choose to make it in a color. Or just give the butterfly a color instead of the golden accent I chose for this tag...

En hier is de volledige tag. Maar je zou perfect kunnen kiezen om dit in een kaartvorm te maken, of kiezen om het in kleur te maken. Of gewoon de vlinder een kleur geven in de plaats van het gouden accent dat ik koos op deze tag...

You are not alone

Ink splats

You are strong...

A touch... a feeling... a heartbeat...  seeing the new set from Visible Image with those beautiful hands... they sure touched something inside of me.  They speak to me and I want to go and create some things of which I can't even say why I'm putting certain elements together.
For today's project I do know what started my project. Looking at one of the hands I immediately thought of a puppet player.  So I just knew I wanted to have something hanging on the hand.  But it wasn't until I started my project that I found the perfect elements.
Got you curious? I've got it all filmed, have fun ^.^

A touch (een aanraking)... a feeling (een gevoel)... a heartbeat (een hartslag)... Toen ik deze nieuwe set van Visible Image zag met die prachtige handen... ze raakten zeker iets vanbinnen. Ze blijven in mijn hoofd zitten en ik heb zoveel ideeën in mijn hoofd waarvan ik niet eens kan verklaren waarom ik sommige elementen samen breng. 
Voor het project van vandaag wist ik wel waar het begon.  Toen ik naar een van de handen keek dacht ik meteen aan een poppenspeler. Dus ik wist dat ik iets aan het hand wou gaan hangen. Maar het was pas toen ik echt aan mijn project begon dat ik de perfecte elementen vond.
Benieuwd?  Ik heb het allemaal op video voor jullie ^.^ Veel plezier!
